Ten Girl Power Songs

All of my parties finish with some high energy dancing games but creating a positive age-appropriate playlist was pretty hard, especially as I wanted to steer clear of chart hits. Below you’ll find ten pop songs that are great for dancing, but also have a great message.

1. Girl Meets World by Rowan Blanchard & Sabrina Carpenter
This is the title song from Disney’s Girl Meets World and features a pop rock sound with a catchy chanted chorus. The tempo is relatively laid back but the beat is great for jumping up and down to and it has easy to learn lyrics for children.

2. Better in Stereo – Theme Song Version by Dove Cameron
I’ve mentioned Dove Cameron before in a previous music top ten but this song by her is also perfect for parties. She has an amazing voice and this pop song, from her show Liv & Maddie, is insanely catchy and sends a great message about how differences make us stronger. Just make sure you use the theme song version and not the slowed down full release.

3. Try Everything by Shakira
Zootopia was only released this year but this song is already a firm favourite at parties. Children and parents recognise this song and the message of not giving up and trying everything is really positive. It has Shakira’s usual blend of Latin American pop which sets it apart from the usual Disney songs.

4. Play my Music by Jonas Brothers
Not technically girl power, but this pop rock song by the Jonas Brothers is hard not to like. It has a catchy hook you’ll be singing all day and boys really enjoy the guitar rock sound to dance about to. Plus it’s nice to have a Disney song for boys that doesn’t mention girls.

5. All I Want is Everything by Victoria Justice
Although this song is technically about a guy, ignore the video and it becomes a fun girl power song about chasing your dreams and doing what you want. The lyrics are not the most complex but the chorus is catchy and easy to learn.

6. Watch Me by Zendaya and Bella Thorne
A more authentic sound, this upbeat dance song is great for older children who will enjoy the slightly heavier beat and more teenage feel. The song focuses on being yourself which is a great message to send across.

7. We’re All in This Together by High School Musical Cast
Although it was released way back in 2006, the music from High School Musical is still ridiculously catchy. This finale song from the first movie has a great feel-good beat which is easy to dance along with, especially if you still remember the moves to the chorus!

8. You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home by Hannah Montana
A funky pop country song, this classic Hannah Montana song is catchy with a fun chorus that says no matter what you do, you’ll always have a home. The song is fast tempo which is makes it great for dancing at the end of a party.

9. Princess Things by Cast – Sofia the First
This song is slower in tempo that the others but it still has a good message for children showing that boys and girls can do whatever makes them happy. The steady beat makes this song good for musical chairs.

10. One and the Same by Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez
This pop rock song stars two of Disney’s biggest stars singing about friendship despite differences and being extraordinary. The song features loud guitars and drums which are great for high tempo dancing.

What do you think of my list? Do you think a positive message is important for a Princess party? Have I missed your favourite? Let me know in the comments.
